MAIN SAHIB-e-IMAN NAHEE

Following is the Urdu poem along with its translation. I am thankful to MYSTIC SOUL who translated this poem into English. I am really impressed by Mystic Soul's skill as I think verse translation is one of the most difficult literary works. One needs to be careful in choosing appropriate words so that mirror of translation could reflect the original script unambiguously.


MAIN EK MUDAT SAY HALAT-E-HAZAR MAI HOON
MUJHAY RAH-O- SAFAR SAY KOI KAAM NAHEE
MAIN EK MUDAT SAY APNI HEE KHOJ MAIN HOON
MUJHAY MANZIL KAY NISHAAN SAY KOI KAAM NAHEE
MUJHAY RAKHT-O-RAHZAN SAY KOI KAAM NAHEE

For long I am in stagnation
nothing to do with course or voyage
For long I am in quest of self
nothing to do with beacon of destination
nor to do with treasure or robber

ZANGEER-E-ZAKHM QADMON MAIN HAREE HAI AB TAK
PHIR SAYYAD KAY CHUNGAL MAIN KYUN GAWAIN KHUD KO
NIGHA MEREE, KISEE CHARAY PAY KYUN DAY DASTAK
KYUN KISEE RAAZ KA HAMRAAZ JATAIN KHUD KO
MISL-E-DAMAN KYUN HAR BAR PHAILAIN KHUD KO

Shackle of bruises are still crisp on limbs
why we waste ourselves again in hunter's cage
why should my eyes knock on one's face
Why deceit ourselves as porter of a secret
Why should we stretch our begging bowl everytime
Just to get fake pennies of love.

MAIN EK BAAGHI, ATA'AT MERA IMAN NAHEE
RAH-O-RASM SAY, ULFAT SAY MUJHAY KAAM NAHE
MAIN ISHQ KAY LASHKAR KA AALAMDAAR NAHEE
MERAY HATHOON MAIN BEWAFAEE KEE TALWAAR NAHEE

MAIN RAFAQAT KO IBADAT KAA DARJAA DAYDOON
MAGAR AFSOOS KAY MAIN SAHIB-E-IMAN NAHEE.

I am a rebel, submission is not my virtue
neither to do with culture nor affection
I am not the doyen of army of devotion
I have no sword of treachery in my hand either

I would level friendship with worship
but alas ! I am not a believer.
